14 yards because 1 yard= 3 feet. 42/3=14. :) Hope this helps!

ok, 3 feet are in a yard, a yard is 36 in total, 1 foot is 12 hopefully you know that, 12+12+12=36 .   42 feet goes into 3, 14 times  36 multiplied by 14 equals 504. Check 504 divided by 14 equal 36in so she needs 14 yards of fabric total.
