-17 = 3 + x
-3 -3
-20 = x

I believe you are solving for x so you’re going to start off by trying to get x by itself. To do that you’re going to subtract 3 from both sides. Since the 17 and the 3 are both negative your answer is also going to be negative (-20) . Then you are left with -20 = x. I hope I was able to help you :)
